Fitness, Food, Fun....for FREE!

Time to get refocused with a little FIT FUN!!  FITmas in July starts tomorrow!  

What is this FITmas I speak of?  It's a week of food, fitness and fun to push through the end of July super slump!!  To start, there will be a grocery shopping list with healthy meals and recipes to follow.  Each day I will offer a workout circuit for you to do at your leisure on its own or in addition to your normal routine.  Of course, it wouldn't be FITmas if there weren't gifts involved!!  So everyone that participates will be sent a surprise gift from me.  I may even throw a few bonus gifts in too!!

It's a Lifestyle....

One of my favorite things about sharing the principles of clean, healthy eating with people is when they "get it." That moment when they realize how great they feel, how much better their clothes fit, the new energy they find, the overall happiness they exude!!  But it also makes me chuckle when they start asking "permission" to enjoy some of their favorites.

While I encourage a healthy plate, I am also not the clean eating police.  If you do not add berries to your oatmeal or an extra veggie to your dinner plate or enjoy if you one candy bar in a two week period, I am not going to send you to healthy lifestyle prison or tell you it was wrong!  Instead I am going to continue offering healthy alternatives and delicious add-ins and give you a place to go to for encouragement and daily motivation!

A healthy, clean eating lifestyle is just that, a lifestyle.  It isn't a 12-week diet.  There is no "one size fits all" approach.  Pick the foods that work for you and create a foundation for good healthy food choices.  Enjoy the taste of real food.  Sure, there are going to be ups and downs.  You are going to crave sweets and salty snacks. You are going to eat healthy most of the time and feel amazing.  You are going to indulge in some extras and may wind up with a tummy ache.   The magic of it all is you get to keep going.  Each new day brings new healthy choices and the opportunity to continue building that foundation.

Create an 85/15 list

Want a handy way to stay on track with clean eating AND enjoy a few of your favorite treats??  Create your 85/15 list.  This is a great way to get a handle on the types of foods you should be eating while still having the chance to enjoy some of the foods you typically want to avoid.

Grab a sheet of paper.  Draw a line down the middle or fold in half vertically.  At the top of the left side write "85%" and underneath that list all of the foods you eat that make you feel your best, your strongest.  Include any clean, healthy foods you are interested in trying too. These are your healthy foods.  At the top of the right side write "15%" and underneath that list all of the "unhealthy" foods or "treat" foods you enjoy eating.  Now post the paper on the fridge or pantry.

When you plan your weekly meals and snacks choose foods from the left side at least 85% of the time.  Keep the right side list for treats, foods eaten 15% or less of the time.  This will help you feel your best and stay on track to your goals.

** A reminder--a "treat" should be one meal or one snack not an entire day, week or weekend of treat foods.  Never ruin all of your efforts from the week in one sit down meal or weekend.  It's a treat, short and sweet.  Keep it that way!
